How the Fun Finds Its Way to Our Shelves
Walk into The Sky's the Limit in Pismo Beach or Up Up and Away in Seal Beach and there's one reaction we hope to see more than any other: joy.
Maybe it's discovering the latest squishy everyone has been searching for. Maybe it's finding a beautiful new flag, spotting a toy you haven't seen since childhood, or discovering something completely new that you didn't even know existed.
That's exactly the experience we want. But what may look like a wonderfully eclectic collection of fun actually has a lot of thought behind it.
There's a Reason It's Here
With decades of retail experience behind us, we've learned that having more stuff isn't the same as having the right stuff.
Everything that comes into our stores has been personally selected and approved by us. But finding those products involves a lot of eyes, ears, experience—and a little bit of play.
We listen to our experienced employees and talk with our vendors about what's new, what's trending, and what they're seeing in the market. We walk industry trade shows, scour catalogs, handle products, test them when we can and, yes, occasionally just play with the toys.
Most importantly, we listen to our customers. What you're excited about, what you're searching for, what you wish we carried and what you come back for all help shape our stores.
We take all of that input, combine it with decades of experience, and ask some pretty simple questions: Is it fun? Is it unique? Is it well made? Does it offer good value? Will our customers enjoy it? And perhaps most importantly: does it belong in our stores?
Experience Matters
Over the years, we've developed relationships with manufacturers and vendors we know and trust. We know the craftsmanship behind our favorite flags. We know how our kites fly. We know which spinners hold up in the wind and which toy companies consistently create clever, quality products.
That trust is earned, not automatic.
We've also stopped carrying products and even moved away from longtime manufacturers when we felt quality had slipped or the value simply wasn't there anymore. Our loyalty ultimately belongs to our customers and to providing products we feel good about putting on our shelves.
Different Is Part of the Fun
We're not trying to be a big-box store. Frankly, where's the fun in that?
We'd rather find the special edition, the small manufacturer, the clever new toy, the beautiful flag design, or simply something different that catches our eye and we think will catch yours too.
And we love the classics. Sometimes joy comes from discovering something brand new. Other times it's hearing, "I haven't seen one of these in years!"
Both reactions make us smile.
That's what curating our stores is really about. It's a process we've refined over decades, but the goal has always remained remarkably simple:
Find great products at a good value, know what we're selling, keep things interesting—and make our customers smile.
Because when you walk through our doors, we don't just want you to see shelves full of products.
We want you to feel the joy.
Come explore what's new in store or browse our collections online. You never know what you might discover.
